How to have a proper relationship when you have ADHD?

My son has ADHD, and though I don't have a diagnosis yet I'm worse than he is with ADHD or ADD.

My social problems are my head is loud and I think in circles and I hyperfocus on some things and have trouble focusing on other things.

I am finding relationships hard. I have a girlfriend at the moment but sometimes I get bored because I just want to do the things I hyperfocus on. I do get a bit lonely and its nice having someone else to spend time with and I love the attention.

I try to have a conversation but all there is in my head is 'crap' basically. All I like to talk about is my theories on ADHD and Autism and the kids I work with, my 80's toy collection and my stick insects and turtles and have a moan about my inability to make myself do the house work. Rather than go on about that stuff I take about other stuff, which is probably boring too.
I'm pretty boring. I bore myself a bit too. I don't think I will change.

She doesn't seem to mind though, although today she was busy trying to get her head around how i can be interested in what she is saying but my thoughts distract me and I don't know it's happened till moments later. When I ask her to say stuff again it's not because I didn't want to listen. I want to know but that turns into an appology conversation instead of what we were talking about.

I don't mind if she doesn't come round either, I've got plenty of stuff to do here.

I am used to my ADHD brain and people at work seem to understand now, and give me lists instead of verbal instructions yet are not in the slightest bit patronising.

I'm just worried that I seem uncaring and that she deserves someone capable of giving her more attention. I'm the same in any relationship.

Some times i wonder if I have aspergers not ADHD.

Honestly the only best way to have a relationship is to be with someone who can love you for who you are inside and out. I am lucky that my fiancee does. I got ADHD, and ADD, and she excepts me for who I am.

I think the best thing to do is tell her about your attention deficit, so you two can change positions more frequently. Just be honest and open about what's boring and tell her to do the same. Either you'll come to an understanding or you'll get frustrated with each other and move on.

Speaking from experience, Living with ADHD is moving Fast Forward, while I wait for everyone else to catch up. Spontaneous, and dynamic qualities come "ready made" with ADHD, expand on them
