Do I have "ADHD and Depression" or is it something else?

I talked to my doctor during my regular checkups and over the past two years she has decided that I probably have ADHD, and Depression caused by the chemical imbalance in my brain.

Now, I don't always feel depressed. I often have random spouts of energy and happiness where I need to move around and do things and I feel like I can accomplish more than normal.
At school I will even take on bigger projects then normal and I will plan out huge things with my school partner and look forward to starting, yet the next day I will not want to do anything and I often drop out of the project because I don't feel I can do it.
I will do things in the hallway such as kicking around a soccer ball that I know i'm not supposed to but not fear the consequences while at other times I won't even stand around someone else doing it in fear of getting in trouble.
I also sometimes have a ridiculously hard time paying attention and sometimes do poorly on tests because I miss questions and I cant remember comprehension stories.
I thought the burst of happiness and lack of attention was the ADHD.

This is very frustrating because my grades have been dropping the past year because of the bursts of "I can do this" and the lack of attention and my friends have been noticing that I have become VERY irritable sometimes (and really friendly at other times).
My friend was poking me with her pencil and I screamed at her to stop (completely overreacting) and I usually resort to hitting them in some way when i'm angry. :(
Friends have told me that I can be violent (nothing causing too much harm) and lash out, yet I never notice when I'm doing it. I just want it to stop.

I always feel like people are talking about me or when I'm doing something and someone laughs I stop in fear of them laughing at me. I don't know what that is but I always feel like others are looking at me.

*******Sorry for the big explanation but i'm just frustrated and want some help with making this stop.I know its probably way more than anyone will want to read but I just wanted to get it off my chest and get other opinions.***********

Some people have suggested that I might be "Bipolar" but I don't know what that is exactly. :S

Does anyone know whether this is some kind of mind thing or just me being a 16 year old girl? Is is all in my head? If it is just me being a teenager/all in my head I need some coping techniques to help :(

I'm on prozzak.
Is that bad if I end up being bipolar?

I'm going to talk to my doctor about the hormone thing to so if I can get help with that and maybe mention the bipolar thing.

This sounds VERY MUCH like bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, and you are at the right age for it to emerge and start becoming a problem.
Bipolar disorder basically means that you go through mood swings from depressive states to manic states. you obviously know what a depressive state is, but seem to be confused on what mania is like.

Symptoms of mania include:
Increased energy level
Less need for sleep
Racing thoughts or mind jumps around
Easily distracted
More talkative than usual or feeling pressure to keep talking
More self-confident than usual
Focused on getting things done, but often completing little
Risky or unusual activities to the extreme, even if it鈥檚 likely bad things will happen

talk to your doctor, and see about getting a psychiatrist or a psychologist. for more information on Bipolar disorder, this is a great website to start: www.bipolar.com

If you keep on think that you have ADHD or Deppression then you are like supporting yourself. Try to not think about its and keep your mind off that topic

i believe that you are going through a mix of bipolar and depression. Or the bipolar is causing you depression. this could occur with family life problems, relationship problems or other emotional attachment problems. Or talk to your doctor and be VERY specific

Bipolar is when a person experiences sudden mood changes randomly. ADHD people tend to always be off topic and change subject at random. They can never focus on one thing for a certain amount of time unless they take medicine. I'm sure you don't have ADHD..It can be just your way of acting around people. Just be yourself and don't let your emotions take over so much.I hope this helps a little.

sounds like bipolar disorder to me.....short story on that is that your mood vascillates between mania ( very high moods, where you may feel like you require little sleep, can take on super human tasks, or feel excessively giddy) and depression (in which you may feel extremely irritable, sad, hopeless, have little to no energy etc.).
there are several types of bipolar, the main difference being whether your episodes are infrequent but long lasting or more frequent but shorter in duration. there are medications that help stabalize the chemistry in your brain so that you dont have such sever mood swings. the meds don't have to be a life sentence per se, but they help while you learn new coping skills.
that being said, young people are often misdiagnosed with bipolar when in fact they are just reeling with vascillating hormones and intense feelings. i suggest asking your doctor for a referral to a psychiatrist to determine whats going on

The way you feel could easily just be your hormones trying to find their correct spot in your head.
What you've described to me seems to be a form of Mania, which is a disorder where the person feels random spouts of energy, happiness, and eagerness to accomplish things. However, your very low points and your highly irritable stages seem to indicate a bipolar disorder as well.
I don't think it's ADHD. Taking stimulant medication WILL make your bipolar/mania symptoms MUCH worse. Do not take medication for ADHD, regardless of what your doctor recommends. I do not typically make strong claims of advice concerning medication, but in this situation there is no debate. Adderall, or other stimulant medication for ADHD could make you way, way worse.

I recommend you start to take St. John's Wort, a supplement available OTC at any grocery/vitamin store. Don't take this if you're on other medications already, and talk to your doctor about it first as well.
