ADD, ADHD in adults? I'm curious.? |
I've always been hyperactive in a very quiet way, it's more on the inside than a physical thing. I had never really thought about it till I started reading about it quite accidentally. I'm from a part of the world where things like this are not thought about. I read about other people and I could identify with them. For instance, in order to feel like I'm in an ok environment, I need to have the tv, music and the internet all on at the same time before I can sit down to read or do any work. I'm more of a creative person and this kind of behaviour ruined my business. I made clothes, did interior decorating, event planning and decorating, gifts, cakes, art and anything I could figure out how to do.In my mind everything is one thing, I can't focus on ONE thing, especially when it comes to work. In spite of wanting and needing to do it all at the same time, I was always overwhelmed and my staff could never keep up and were always frustrated with me. It made me look like some kind of creative genius, but I was always overwhelmed and overdrawn and overspent and always had headaches and palpitations. My mind cannot stay still, like I said, on the outside, I appear to be very calm but inside it's like 100 tv stations on at the same time. Is this normal? Or is it something to look into? I thought I was the normal one and the people around me just didn't get it. I really need some answers. Thanks. I would most definitely say that you are suffering from ADHD. I'm not sure where you're from but if it's possible talk to a psychiatrist and they can get you on the right path through therapy and meds. Good luck! Not uncommon. Straterra is often first prescribed as it isa non stimulant- controlled drug. I know several adults that take Adderall, ritalin, etc. in varying doses that are dose-related to an individuals need. All amphetamine stimulants are schedule 2 drugs, and are subject to being sold on the street and abused by others. I know a guy that takes 40mgs. of ritalin twice daily, and he can finally relax and watch a whole tv show. no not really because as your growing your brain is growing to there for You're right to an extent, most people around you don't get you. It's also very under diagnosed in adults. It's a common misconception that people with ADD are too fast, like your thought process. It's actually the other way around. Neurons in your brain fire at a certain speed to cover a certain distance. If it goes too slow, it gets lost, AKA distracted. The famous drug Ritalin is actually a stimulant, as well as most other ADD drugs. Some studies have found that giving children coffee is a great substitute. It speeds them up and thus, focuses them. Try that. If you drink coffee now, try drinking a bit more. If you don't see results over a period of a few weeks, feel free to see a specialist. |
