Can dogs have ADHD.....?

Yes dogs can have basically all the problems humans have and as most people know a lot of people have ADHD but it could also be the age or breed of the dog.

i know that they certainly can have anxiety, short attention, and poor training, those things might look like ADHD...

i rescued a dog once who was psycho, i've retrained a lot of dogs, but i'm convinced that this one was suicidal, used to break windows and eat the glass, broke its teeth off when i crated it, actually ingested the better part of a pillow top mattress (after chewing its way out of a plastic kennel). could never housebreak it either, which so far has been the first and last time- i'm not sure if it was retarded or what, but when i brought it to the vet they thought it had some sort of disorder. then it started to get real nervous, for the thing's own good i had to put it down or it was gonna eat something and have a terrible death.

Hyperactivity (or ADHD), as we currently understand it, is a genetic condition. It is rare and can only be diagnosed by a veterinarian or a behaviorist. If your dog seems hyperactive, you should first look at lifestyle issues, his environment, management, and rewards. Most likely one or more of these factors will underlie the "hyperactive" behavior 鈥?but if not, ADHD remains a remote possibility.
