Someone plz help me out with this!!!! question on ADHD!!!!!!!!!?

Can ADHD be passed on?
i dont have ADHD...but my brother has had it for as long as i can remember and my fiance told me he has it too..and we are planning to have children in the future and i would like to know what the possibility might be of them having ADHD too?

Yes it is hereditary. My 2 kids have it and so does my niece and nephews. It goes down the line on both sides of my husband and mine. It is kinda like bipolar disorder ( I have it ) and all other mental illnesses. They can be passed on through genes. It is not as bad though as it may seem. There are plenty of meds out there that work wonderfully for this.

hello..till now no gene has been found associated with adhd and that's a good news but the bad news is that there are studies(just pilot projects but not the big scale studies) that show some children of 'adhd parents' having this disease in autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance. adhd can also occur in children of normal families and parents with adhd can have normal children.it is more common in boys(4:1). but again there is good news that we have proper treatment of this disease with high cure rates......so your chance of having a baby with adhd is 50% as with others who do not have history of this ds....
