Can ADHD have any effect on the baby ?

Can ADHD have any effect on the baby ?

It can be passed genetically. Like most mood disorders, some diseases, etc. It's in your genetic strain to be coded with that level of development and focus, so that's howthe code for your children works too.

My roommate comes from a family of ADHD and ADD people, as well as OCD and OCPD. At 3, her son is showing ADHD and OCPD symptoms. He'll freak out if the bun on his cheeseburger isn't even with the meat anymore, or wander off in thought in the middle of his own sentences. It's hard for him to find something you're pointing at, even if it's the only thing on the floor. It's not that he's ignorant or moody. Spend 10 minutes around him and you can tell the difference when he's really trying to find something or just goofing off. The food thing happens with all food, and is different from anything else being wrong. He can go to his mom and ask her to put his cape on just fine, but if something's out of order he just can't process it and the whole world falls apart for him.

My suggestion, that I've heard from moms and will be doing with my pregnancies, is fish oil. The Omega 3 acids help with brain development of the child. There are studies that "suggest" that it can decrease the likelihood of learning disorders, but there's no way to test that on a realistic scale. You can track a few kids, but there are so many factors.

Also, some say to not worry about fish oil until later in the pregnancy, and that there's no "concrete" proof that it helps any earlier on. I say, I don't need concrete proof to do something that could possibly help and can't hurt anyway, if there's a chance it helps my child :)

Try to do all the things you would do for any pregancy, for a healthy child: eat well, avoid junk foods, get plenty of sleep, etc. Eat protein, leafy green vege's., fruits. If your child ends up getting diaper rashes, look up candida, ADHD and candida. A healthy pregnancy is reliant on all the normal things a peson would do for any pregnancy. Medication effects can be discussed with the OBGYN, if the mother has ADHD and is taking medications.

No, I don't believe so. But the medications commonly given for ADHD can have detrimental effects on a growing fetus. So, if you're dianosed as ADHD, and taking meds for it, talk with your doctor about all the possible risks of using the meds while you're pregnant.

There is still not CONCRETE proof of the psychological THEORY about ADHD, and many other "disorders". Even the hype about a chemical imbalance of the brain is not completely supported by valid study. A fascinating read on this is by Dr Peter Breggin, the book is called "Toxic Psychiatry". I have included a link to his website.

I've also found a site about ADHD for you to read.

Please don't worry too much. I would say your chances of having problems in your child are slim. Take good care of yourself and eat well, get plenty of rest and drink lots of water.

God Bless,
R

you mean be born with it because it runs in his family?
probably makes the baby more prone to having it i would think... but most kids these day are--- thats due to raising a child on TV!

good luck
