What is ADHD, What does it do to you?

Attention Defect Hyperactivity Disorder?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD, is one of the most common mental disorders that develop in children. Children with ADHD have impaired functioning in multiple settings, including home, school, and in relationships with peers. If untreated, the disorder can have long-term adverse effects into adolescence and adulthood.

Symptoms of ADHD will appear over the course of many months, and include:

Impulsiveness: a child who acts quickly without thinking first.
Hyperactivity: a child who can't sit still, walks, runs, or climbs around when others are seated, talks when others are talking.
Inattention: a child who daydreams or seems to be in another world, is sidetracked by what is going on around him or her.

If ADHD is suspected, the diagnosis should be made by a professional with training in ADHD. This includes child psychiatrists, psychologists, developmental/behavioral pediatricians, behavioral neurologists, and clinical social workers. After ruling out other possible reasons for the child鈥檚 behavior, the specialist checks the child鈥檚 school and medical records and talks to teachers and parents who have filled out a behavior rating scale for the child. A diagnosis is made only after all this information has been considered.

Effective treatments for ADHD are available, and include behavioral therapy and medications.

My Daughter Has A.D.H.D and She has alot of trouble in school she is really hyper and cannot hold still and has concentration problems she takes metadate c.d ritalin and risperdal.

Hi Edwick,

This is a disorder in children, teens and adults that can cause problems with focus for performing daily tasks or can cause a child or teen to be extremely hyper. Below I've listed some of the symptoms.

It is hard for the individual to organize or finish a task, to pay attention to details, or to follow instructions or conversations. The person is easily distracted or forgets details of daily routines.

The person fidgets and talks a lot. It is hard to sit still for long for a meal or while doing homework. Smaller children may run, jump or climb constantly. The individual feels restless and has trouble with impulsivity. Someone who is impulsive may interrupt others a lot, grab things from people, or speak at inappropriate times. It is hard for the person to wait their turn or listen to directions. A person with impulsiveness may have more accidents and injuries than others.

It pretty much makes you super-smart. People with ADHD have extremely sharp minds. They process information much faster than regular people (hence the "hyperactivity"). When they take medication like Ritalin or Xanax (designed to make them 鈥渘ormal鈥? can build up an 鈥渁ttention deficit" which allows them to focus their mind for short periods after the medication wears off.

It may seem like ADHD sufferers are unable to concentrate for long periods, this is only because they are under the effect of their medications or have used up their attention deficit.

Hope that helps.

It causes the person who has it to have an inability to concentrate for very long, and hyperactivity. They have a difficult time remaining still for any length of time. It can be treated with medication. If you think you have it, schedule and appointment with your doctor. Only a doctor can diagnose and treat this.

I will tell you what ADHD is hey look at that bird, i like candy, I wonder if it snows in paris. Im sorry what were we talking about.

Causes one to be very hyper....can't sit still. Thus, it's hard to a child with this disorder to concentrate or learn. Very short attention span.

hope this helps
