What are ways to fight ADD and ADHD naturally?

There are far too many pharmaceuticals that change a person's behavior drastically. Are there any ways to help this without the use of meds?

Hi amoonlitdawn -

There are absolutely non-medicinal ways to treat ADHD and manage ADHD symptoms.

The most important thing to consider is answering one question:

What are your goals (or the person's goals) for managing their symptoms?

Once you have an idea of what you are looking to manage or overcome, then we can really address the "alternative" methods of treatment.

Here are a few to consider:

1. Behavior Therapy
2. Coaching (more action-oriented, and tends to be more strength-based)
3. Neurofeedback
4. Working Memory Training
5. Native Remedies
6. Exercise
7. Diet
8. Finding What You Love (And Doing More Of That)
9. Social Skills

Here's the thing about managing ADHD -- if you look at it as an illness or disorder, then most likely you will focus on treating the "bad" and overlooking the good.

Most of the things people with ADHD struggle with tend to be related to expectations from society and never really being taught that we don't have to be perfectionists, etc...

The best advice I can offer would be to follow your heart, get a very powerful support group of like-minded people who are interested in the same goals...

This goes for life in general, and I can't say how important it is for people with ADHD.

Hope this helps!

One thing you can try: The bible. I know the bible provides answers for anxiety and depression. ADHD? Possibly.

If you'd like, you can check out the website below for information on biblical answers to mental health issues.

Sure, behavior therapy. It's much more effective and the effects last, unlike stimulants.
If you are talking about an adult, then the answer is man up and take responsibility for your actions.

I have been told by two ADHD adults that caffeine in mega-doses helps them slow down and focus more clearly, kind of opposite of what it does to me, lol.

Cut down on sugar!! Also, coffee works. My son's doc told me this. Coffee is a natural stimulant, the same as ADD medicine

try natural herbs like focus fast
