I am prescribed Vyvanse for Adult ADHD and need to find a new doctor due to new insurance?

Will I have problems getting the new doctor to prescribe it? I am on 60 mg and it has done wonders for me. I am afraid a new doctor will not continue this or will want to try something different. Anyone have a similar experience?

I've been in this situation before (not with Vyvanse, but a different DEA-Scheduled-Drug).

Doctors are just people, and unfortunately, sometimes work by their personal beliefs.

The doctor you're seeing now may be more liberal about prescribing Vyvanse although it IS an abusable Schedule II Drug. Unfortunately, your new doctor may not feel as if you need it. And (non-corrupt) doctors don't administer unnecessary drugs...especially scheduled ones. For instance, amphetamine (the drug of which Vyvanse is a pro-drug) used to be prescribed for weight-loss. Because of amphetamine's HIGH potential for abuse, however, it is no longer prescribed for this reason (fewer scripts for amphetamine=less amphetamine on the "streets").

If I were you, when speaking with the new doctor, I WOULDN'T mention any recreational drug use (as this may lead him/her to believe you are abusing the medication). But more importantly, if you would really like to continue treatment with Vyvanse and your new doc turns it down, then have your current physician write you a sort of "letter of recommendation" for the drug, including on the letter your physician's office number, explaining how wonderfully this drug has worked for you. This sounds a bit silly, yes, but if Vyvanse has "done wonders" for you, then it's sure worth trying to keep.
