ADHD in an 18year old?

I think i may have ADHD. here are my symptoms;

I day dream alot in class, teachers ask me questions and i don't even notice them asking me the question
been told by teachers im a 'class clown'
I love attention
I hear voices all the time in my head
People say that i don't look or sound stress and im thick-skin, but i do worry about things alot, and i have a very fast hear rate (im a sport student, very fit)
I also have dyslexia which just recently got found out.

Do i have ADHD ? or something else. Thanks

When i say, i hear voices i mean, like my mum shouting for me and when i see her, she says she did'nt say anthing, that sort of thing. Im not mental or anything !

It does not sound like a typical AD-HD (Hyper-kinetic Disorder) yet there are 3 main types. These are inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. You could very well have one of the symptoms mentioned. If you have 1 of them then you would be classed as mild ADHD, then if you have 2 of the 3 named above you would be classed as Moderate ADHD, and if you have all 3 of the above then its SEVERE ADHD or the new name - Hyperkinetic Disorder. It could take up to 5 years to get a diagnosis, (personal experience) and thats if you can get a doctor to refer you to begin with, as ADHD is very very hard to get a diagnosis in the UK.
Also by personal experience, my eldest son is now 21 and Dyslexic, which was diagnosed at 16 years of age. Before that the school just thought he was a naughty and aggressive child, the fact remained that he would throw tables get angry as he could not read what was on the paper that the teacher had just given him (My son says - "the words get up and run off the page). So out of sheer frustration he would throw the tables and get angry. It was not until his last year in full time of UK education that we got the Dyslexia diagnosis. Some of you symptoms could be linked to Dyslexia as my own son is hyper too. Furthermore my 7 year old has had ADHD since birth and just been diagnosed with SEVERE ADHD Nov 2008. You should ask your school or college to get the school psycologist for their input as they have the power to refer for diagnosis, if not see your own G.P. as they also have the power of referral.

Hope this helps.

No you need to grow up. You can find exscuses for being lazy and failing to pay attention but at the end of the day the only person it will affect is you. No doubt you will be sending me an e-mail saying how awful I am. Everyone has internal dialogue so you don't have "voices", daydreaming is just another way of being lazy and thinking you may have adhd at 18 is just another attention seeking method. Sorry to be harsh but if it stops you buying into our victim culture then great.

I work with special ed kids&your symptoms dont sound like adhd. There are many, many complex conditions, only a doctor would be qualified to give you diagnosis BUT it is not normal to hear voices in your head ,hearing voices can be a sign of a mental health issue rather than a learning issue&you must see your doctor about this. Your other 'symptoms' are anecdotal. Dyslexia is not known to be related to any other learning disability although it does make it challenging to concentrate on your studies.

well the internet can't diagnose you, but i would say if you are concerned get tested
daydreaming is normal by the way
i dont have ADHD and i do this usually when my class doesn't totally grab my interest
loving attention is your personality trait, not necessarily the 'h' of adhd
voices, unless you are schizophrenic is internal dialogue, again from i assume being bored
sports give you higher heart rates
and dyslexia, well ive not really seen it as an adhd link
if you has adhd symptoms as a kid i guess it would be more likely, but adhd seems to be being over identified these days as an excuse for lack of attention
again, get tested

As mentioned in many of the above answers, the only true answer to whether or not you have ADHD is to be tested. A lot of good points have been mentioned that you should seriously take into consideration. The voices...yeah, not really a typical "symptom" of ADHD and I can't really say what the heart rate thing is all about as the resting heart rate of a fit person is usually lower than an unfit person.

You are suffering from BUTS (Boring Uninteresting Teaching Syndrome). It is also known as TOTPX (Teaching Only To Pass eXams).
You are not being 'educated' but are being taught to "pass exams". A bit like painting by numbers.
If your teachers were doing their jobs properly you would be listening all the time because what they would be saying would be interesting.
Most ADHD is just this. This is why, since teachers themselves were taught this way, ADHD has become endemic and a "get out" for bad teaching.

yeah it is possible you may have ADHD and you have just never been diagnosed, my little sister is only 13 and she has ADHD ... its not something to be embarrassed about just ask your doctor and see what he/she says there are tests out to see if you have it so...

I'm not a professional, but that sounds more like schizophrenia than ADHD. Then again, I don't know as much about ADHD as I do schizophrenia. Best to see a doctor.

Most people have ADHD as a child and have treatment throughout their life. I dont think it is ADHD, I would bring your concern to a professional. Best of luck :)

95% of teenagers in this world today have ADHD

and yes you do have it. It's normal, and you will grow out of it. so chill

You have to get tested for ADHD. You could have other issues. You cannot be diagnosed over the internet.

well it sounds like you do but everyone now a days does lol i had it but not as bad now

You hear voices....? Thats... not ADHD, thats psychosis.

if you did drugs it could be from that, like long term dope use.
i kinda have the same problems lol
