ADHD Diet. Has it worked for you? |
My son is 4 and we have been taking him to a physiologist for about 6 months now. We took him his physiologist last week. He said that maybe we needed to talk to my sons doctor about putting him on meds for ADHD. My husband and I don't want to go that wrought yet. We want to try other steps first. We have tried different ways of discipline. They worked for a while, but he has back stepped. So I was wondering has any one on here has tried the ADHD diet, or knows any one that has. If you have, how did it go? Did it make a difference. I see nothing wrong with trying other options first. He is only 4 and I think you have time before you need to consider medicine. They won't put my niece on anything until she's 6 her doctor strongly advices against using these medicines until then. The diet has worked for her and so has going to a Montessori school. I am not against the pills if you have tried everything else. Some pills do have side effects which is why I personally would wait till he's 6. ADHD medications are temporary solutions. The meds are good. Its helped me a great deal to concentrate since childhood. I'm 20 now :) alright, here I'll break this down for you. As a person with ADHD, -nothing- worked but the pills. I failed school up until 8th grade until I got pills. In fact, I can't even remember most of my childhood, because I'd tunnel vision so bad. Which hurts now because I don't remember my dad much now. Its honestly..really horrible to grow up with ADHD, and I'd recommend pills as soon as your son can take them. At least he'll be able to sit still for 5 minutes and do his school work. And remember it. Hello, I am an 18 year old in highschool and i recently began taking medicine for ADHD. Having gone through gradeschool, and highschool without ADHD medicine, I would definatly recommend medication. I used to act very squirrely and hyper in class and very rarely focused on anything during class. Outside of school my friends and parents would complain about my hyper behaivior as well. I began taking a pill called Vyvanse, which is long lasting and at low potential for abuse (not that it would matter for a 4 year old). The medicine has truelly changed my output and I not only focus, I also now enjoy learning and giving my best efforts. It also mellows me out and gives a great relaxation that gets rid of any urge of bouncing off the walls. I hope I helped, and good luck with your son. |
