Adhd child switching meds....help!!!!!!?

my son usually takes 15mg adderall in the am and 10mg after lunch. when his ped. expressed his concern with his weight (not gaining or losing,) I decided that we should explore our options. It works faboulus on him, and I really want something the same that won't effect him or cause addition or abuse later. So the ped put him on clonidine 0.1mg in the am and 0.05mg with lunch, plus he changed the adderall to only 10mg in the am and no more. I am seeing absolutely no change, in fact in one week he had 2 referrals at school, and he is a walking zombie, or should I say a hyper zombie. The ped doesn't want to try anything else yet, it's been one month, and he won't give him more adderall either. I'm ready to get a different doctor, one that will give him his regular meds again because I honestly don't know what else to try. I want my son normal, not drugged or out of control. any suggestions? also, he has 00000 problems with sleep

thank you for reminding me zoesnana....he was in individual and group counseling before any meds started. the therapist refered him to a child sphycologish(or how ever it's spelled) we've tried several options since age 4. at age 7 even the prof recomended meds. i do agree with you on trying it first without, unfortunetly in his case it hasn't shown results yet.

My son was on Ritalin 10mg and because it only last 4 hrs at a time I had him switch him to the patch of Daytrana 20 mg last 9hrs releasing 2.2 mg/hr. Teachers love it, they have his attention and he is not zombied out. It goes on his hip so he does not have problems changing for gym and the other kids don't see it.

I was in the same boat with my son, and the natural behavioral methods found in this article really helped him - with no meds. He is now well-behaved, gets straight A's, and my family has some peace and quiet. He's like a different kid, it's truly amazing!

There was a friend of ours who had a child on these meds, having almost the same problems. I would babysit him and see him without meds and he seemed just fine and when they gave him these meds he was a zombie. I suggested why don't they try Counseling one on one the child and the counselor first and then maybe mom join later. He has improved so much now and he no longer needs medication.. I can't go into it all right now but, hey is it worth the try? I know for a fact I would never give my kids Drugs to control them unless it were to save there lives. In the long run you don't know what these drugs can do to his body later in life. Ask these Doctors if they would give the drugs to there own children and tell them to be honest.
I know they wouldn't. Sorry but I am very much against using any drugs on kids.
Good Luck
Please I am really asking you to try alternative medicine like natural healing and counseling, he is your flesh & Blood don't do this to your child.
