ADHD Diet. Has it worked for you?

My son is 4 and we have been taking him to a physiologist for about 6 months now. We took him his physiologist last week. He said that maybe we needed to talk to my sons doctor about putting him on meds for ADHD. My husband and I don't want to go that wrought yet. We want to try other steps first. We have tried different ways of discipline. They worked for a while, but he has back stepped. So I was wondering has any one on here has tried the ADHD diet, or knows any one that has. If you have, how did it go? Did it make a difference.

I just want whats best for my son. Please no rude comments.

I tried EVERTHING and then some. Vitamen supplements, doctors, less sugar, carbs, foods with red dyes, spanking, not spanking, pleading, begging, threatening, bribeing, crying, therapy, ignoring, talking, school interventions, parent teacher conferences, moving seats in class, taking away priveleges........I can keep going. Really, I can. In the end, I fiiiiianally tried medication. My kids are doing much better. Their not perfect, but they focus, They can finally finish assignments. I don't get calls from the school every other day.
Do what is best for your child. People like to tell you what you SHOULD do and half the time they don't even have kids or don't know what they hell they are talking about.
I was told all kind of negative things about meds. So, i waited YEARS to even consider trying it. I figured I would try every thing under the sun first. So, now I feel very comfortable with the desicion to try medication. Good luck. I know how hard it can be to raise a child and make such important discions. Your asking for help shows what a terrific mom you are.
Listen to the positive advice, and drop the negative ones like a bad habit. Take good care.

hey! i've asked a similar question before because i didn't want to put my kids into drugs either. and a very nice user here gave me this link on a good diet for ADHD cases.

there's the laborious occupational and behavioral therapy as an alternative route, too. time-consuming but it's great because it involves the whole family. well, it's more personal than a drug can possibly be anyway. but that's just me. :)

At 4, they can not tell you that your son has ADHD
Do not let them put him on drugs at four
He way to young, and can not tell you that he has it
Some 4 year out grows it, other in a few years need drugs

Take him to a different physiologist
This guy is wrong, you need a better one for a four year old

I have heard monosodiumglutamate "MSG" can cause children to have ADHD. Check the ingredients on all the foods he eats and make sure they don't contain it. When I eat anything with msg in it I get very a reaction like having tremors. Msg is a food preservative/meat tenderizer.

cut out high fructose corn syrup... you'd be surprised just how much of it is out there... check all of your foods and if it's on the label toss it. Your child is only four... the medication will cause your child to not eat at all.. my step-son is on meds for adhd and yes it calms him down but he is also not the same little boy when he's on it. He doesn't eat until it wears off and the effects it has are similar to putting the brain on cocaine. Do your research on the drugs! Psychologists are too quick to prescribe meds for adhd and there a lot of neurologists out there who refuse to accept that the "disease" even exists. Do your research on why people DON'T think adhd exists and the arguments made are quite convincing. They also give advice on how to deal with bad behavior. The symptoms were created to describe over half of the population! I would suggest the book "bringing up boys" by dr. james dobson as well. It explains behaviors and why little boys act out so much more than girls, what is normal and the best ways to deal with it. STOP taking him to the psychologist there is nothing wrong with his brain... he is four craving attention and love and lots of play time with mom and dad! Good luck and say lots of prayers as well. God will show you the best way to raise your son.
