Cod/Fish liver for ADHD?

I was wondering if any parents have tried this supplement for ADHD and did it actually work. I am beside myself in dealing with ADHD and ADD symptoms from my kids and need a lot of advice. My doctor doesn't help, they just want to medicate them. Thanks

Ok, my child is bi polar /adhd. She needs meds for the bi polar disorder, but we don't even treat the adhd with any kind of adhd meds! I just do it all with behavioral modification.
I've heard of doing the supplements and diet for ADHD, but you have to follow through with a behavioral modification with them, keep stricktly to the diet, and create a schedule for them in a sense. All that put together has helped some kids i've seen with just adhd in a matter of between 1-3 months.. I'll look up some web sites for you. You want to do more than just the omega fatty acids.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is work with diet and a regular, stable routine. If they know homework is at a certain time and playtime is, too, they have less opportunities to get all worked up. My aunt tried Cod/Fish liver for her son and it didn't do much. What worked the best for him was one of those mini cans of caffeinated something (mountain dew, diet, coke, whatever). The caffeine is similar to the stimulants in meds, but it's a much lower dosage without the harsher side effects.

We also changed his diet--they kept very little sugar in the house and stocked up on meats, fruits, and veggies. We also limited his carb intake because carbs convert to instant sugar. Meats were best because they are hardest to break down.

They did a trial of the meds, which worked, but they made my aunt too nervous, so they stopped using them and are dealing with him as he is. They have an appointment to see a specialist in ADD/ADHD/Sensory Processing Disorders in a few weeks, so we'll see what happens! Oh, he just turned 9 if that helps anything.

I was in the same boat with my children, and the natural behvioral methods found in this article really helped them - with no meds. They are now behaved, get straight A's, and my family has some peace and quiet.

many kids are helped with diet and supplements. Cod liver oil, b vitamins, and a diet free of food dyes, preservatives, and processed foods.

I've read some pretty good articles about it over here: http://www.18ideas.info
