Are there any natural treatments for ADD or ADHD?

I suspect I may have a minor case of ADD, but I don't have health insurance so I can't get checked out by an MD. Are there any safe nutritional supplements, mental exercises, or other remedies that can assist with symptoms? Thanks.

Jennifer is right. There have been a lot of studies that have shown that Fish Oil can help with ADD/ADHD. It seems too simple, and that may be one reason it wasn't really looked at closely for this, but I wasn't surprised it would help when I thought about it. The EPA and DHA in Fish Oil help with all sorts of things including heart health, skin health, and brain health.
Give it a try... it's economical, safe, and easy. Just make sure that the company you get it from uses Molecular Distillation because that's currently the only safe way to remove any trace contaminants of any heavy metals. Of course, if you aren't sure about the dosage or the benefits, you may want to consult with a holistic doctor, as they may have other additional options available to them.

Physical exercise can help in many ways as well to help with getting some of the energy out if they are hyperactive. Also, some more structured exercise can help a lot, especially martial arts. Now, it may seem weird, but the structure that is set up in that really helps people who have ADD, ADHD, and even Autism... We've got a few students in my Tae Kwon Do class that have each of those and I've seen amazing results from it.
I have heard mixed results from mental exercises. Some say it helps, some say they don't because they can't get the person to sit down long enough to do them. I think it varies mostly on a case by case basis.

There are quite a few studies on many of these as well and you can take a look through many of them at http://www.pubmed.org (just search for the terms like ADHD, Fish Oil, etc). Good luck and I hope I helped!

Try some herbal remedies before you get into the over the counter drug routine. I have terrible ADD and found the drugs to be an unhealthy choice.

My success has come from chamomile and St Johns Wort. I have also found my diet has alot to do with aggravating my symptoms.

This question really hits home, because I have been looking for an answer and have tried so many different supplements and drugs.
First of all, you need to know what type of ADD/ADHD you have?
are you the hyper type that can't sit still? or is it that your body is still and it's your mind that is constantly daydreaming or racing? or both??

For me, the best I have found so far has been an herb called Schisandra(Wu Wei Zi in Chinese). But you really will not know until you try yourself.

I have tried many other ones that Have not worked for me, but I will not name those, because I don't want to discourage you from trying them because they very well work for you.

Good Luck.

Some people also claim Omega-3's are good for ADD. But it did not help in my case.

I am not sure about anything you can actually take, but I do suggest eating natural whole foods. Stay away from processed foods. Eat whole wheat breads and cereals. No Sugar! Actually, the South Beach Diet is a good one. Nothing with added chemicals. No processed meats. You would be amazed in the difference in how you will feel.

Actually some studies have shown that a change in diet can effect things like ADD. you might want to google it. I was diagnosed with ADD when i was in high school, i am now 32, and have found that exercise actually helps a TON! i am not sure about supplements or anything like that...but a hour of good sweating does wonders.

Not advocating, or suggesting you don't try anything you don't want to, but I know A LOT of people that were helped by marijuana. I know this one person that had really bad ADHD, and ever since he started to smoke he's become a totally chill person. It was a shocking change,

I have read that flax seed oil can do amazing things for ADD/ADHD/
