My almost 5 year old is adhd? |
I talked to the doctor about it and they act like I'm lying or they just dont care. She also has a bedwetting problem (has her whole life) and they said "oh well its normal until they are 16." I think this doctor is a moron jerk and its time for me to find a new doctor. Thank you all for your advice - You need to go to a child psychologist. They can run tests to make sure it is ADHD and not something else going on (medical or psychological) that are causing her to have these symptoms. You dont want to medicate your child without a diagnosis from a psychologist. You wouldnt take medication for high cholesterol without first taking a blood test to test your cholesterol level. In the same way, you ought not medicate for ADHD unless she is tested. Otherwise you may be medicating the wrong thing and it could be harmful to her. I believe that most children that are diagnosed with ADAH are wrongly so. Children need attention and love. When they don't get what they need they act out in ways that are disruptive and hyper. If you are pregnant with your 5th child it is very possible that your near 5 year old is suffering from insufficient attention and care. I will probably get alot of flack for this- but I think that with meds parents often times use that instead of actually addressing issues with their children. My daughter had a psychiatric evaluation and "showed signs" of ADHD. I personally think that is crap. She is very active and gets into trouble often, but it is nothing that can't be fixed without doping her up. Consistency is the key to discipline and follow through with whatever you tell them ALWAYS. Did you know that the meds are amphetamines? Same thing as meth- it works opposite on people who are ADHD, but still would you want your child on legal dope? bedwetting can be a sign of stress for a child, I would not disregard the fact that your child could be stressed about something. Get a second opinion. bedwetting should not be common at age 16...actually bedwetting is never ok unless a child might be sick or it was/is just the occasional accident. My son is 4 and he hasn't wet his bed since he was potty trained at 2 years old. the bed problem i cant explain but if you look up adhd everone in the world has it except for like 1% mabey you're just a bad parent Children are not typically diagnosed with ADHD until at least 2nd grade. The behavior has to occur in more than one environment and school is an environment where the symptoms are typically triggered. Five year olds are normally impulsive and active. Their brain has not developed to the point that they can delay gratification and think beyond theirselves and what is appropriate. First, Ive talked to a lot of specialists about ADHD & ADD because I thought for a long time that my son had it. They say that parents are too quick to assume that a child suffers from this because they cant handle their behavior. You DO NOT want your child on medication. My sister was on ADHD meds her whole life and she is the most Effed up individual I have ever known and I love the girl, but its true. I made some lifestyle changes and to my surprise my son was drastically better. Wetting the bed is very normal for kids, especially when they are only 5 years old. You need to remember, most kids now days arent even potty trained until they are almost 4 years old and that is considered average. Make sure you do a lot of research and talk to different specialists about these conditions. All kids are hyper active, there are just the few and far between that "seem" normal because they are quiet. If your child watches a lot of TV, make that stop and take his/her tv out of their bedroom if there is one in there. This is one of the MAIN things children become so hyperactive from. Im not preaching either, I did a lot of research and decided "against" medicating my son because of all the side affects. Let you little guy grow, things will change you'll see. You should be more concerned about his happiness and well being and not about how it disrupts your family. That is mean to say about your own child. My son drives me nuts, but I notice when I give him more positive attention he is better well behaved. You need to take your child to someone else. Never stick to a doctor that makes you feel dumb or doesn't listen to you, they of course don't have to do everything you say, I just mean that they take the time and really listen, unfortunately you have to shop around. |
