My son was taking Vyvanse for his ADHD, the insurance company won't pay for it...What is a good ADHD med?

I have heard Stattera is good. But I have also heard it stunts their growth and may give them suicidal tendences.

I don't think there is any research showing it stunts growth, but yes, it can produce suicidal feelings during the first few weeks of treatment.

Why don't you just ask about Ritalin? It seems like most insurance companies pay for that.

I bet also that your doctor will have a number of suggestions.

Has he tried Adderall or Concerta? These are usually covered by insurance companies. My son takes Concerta, and it works well for him. I believe it is similar to Vyvanse. You can also try fighting with the insurance company to get the Vyvanse covered. The doctor would need to write a letter stating why the Vyvanse was medically necessary and you'd need to file an appeal. It can be done, though. For a while, my son was on a medication called Metadate (which is basically the same as Concerta, but with a shorter effective period). My insurance company didn't cover it, but I got the doctor to write a letter saying it was medically necessary. At the time, the Concerta was too long-acting and kept him awake until 2 or 3 am (he was 5 at the time). My insurance company approved the Metadate for him.

We started my son on Adderall XR and I was happy with the results, only side effect, my son didn't readily want to eat. I got tired of my xhubby complaining so we switched him to Concerta, it has the same results but he's eating. The only thing I don't like is it wears off by 2-3 in the afternoon, but he has grown and is a little better at controlling himself. Good Luck!!!!!

possess as much information as you could maybe is one of the options, however it is quite time consuming, here http://www.insuranceidea.info/free-insur... is the resource i have ever had good experience.
