Do children with ADHD react differently on Ritalin then other children?

Some people tell me that the brain of children diagnosed with ADHD is different because they become relaxed from Ritalin, while other children would become hyperactive/stimulated like when using Speed or Cocaine.

Is this true or is it a myth?

Its a myth.
Ritalin is a stimulant and will basicaly increase everyones (regardless of whether they have adhd or not) level of neurotransmittors/hormones such as dopamine, serotonin and norepinephridine.
What it actualy does is allow those wiv adhd 2 focus on one thing at a time and 2 filter out all other distractions, which makes them mistakenly luk like they are more relaxed.
Those without adhd will become more hyperactive when taking ritalin and make them appear like sum1 with adhd.
Hope this helps a little.

To matt..why would you take ritalin illegaly? if as you say you have adhd.Surely you would have it prescribed?
Also you say you choose not 2 take medication but then take ritalin??? for your alleged adhd.please explain.
Also one of the main side effects of ritalin is anxiety then how is it possible it reduces ur anxiety???.

To be honest it is true. Methlyphenidate (ritalin) effects me in a much different way then it does my friends. It slows down my thought process and allows me to focus on things that matter, in higher doses it's just like any other stimulant though. Surprisingly it actually helps with my anxiety and OCD as well. Methylphenidate is the closest pharmaceutical to cocaine, addicts can't tell the difference. That being said I have only gotten the drug illegally, but I choose on my own not to take meds for my ADD, but if I really need it, I will buy it illegally to help me out. Trying to help your ADD naturally is a much better idea, also try to take up yoga.

Also studies have proven ADD/ADHD meds don't do anything in the long run for peoples ADD, yet they have a shitload of side-effects and can change how your brain works permanently.

well ask your doctor.

it would stand to reason that the brain of a child with ADHD reacts differently to ritalin than that of a normal child, especially seeing as how normal children are not really perscribed ritalin...

It's true - with concerta anyway. Concerta is similar to Ritalin but less harsh. Our doctor told me that he can often tell when a child has been misdiagnosed with ADHD from how they react to the drugs.
