ADHD can take a toll on parents. Good for you for finding your mom help. You're a wonderful child. Below is a link to a very active ADHD forum. I hope it helps your mom.

Here is one group that was suggested when I had questions about ADHD:

Your mom can also go to the school or the main district office and ask for some helpful suggestions in regards to groups, books, etc. Probably a group right in your own area where she can actually talk to people might be a good idea, because there may be some people who have gone through things she is having trouble with, or just share ideas. Another thing that can be helpful is a parenting class called: STEP Parenting. This class is often offered through school systems, and getting an experienced teacher with this group might be helpful. She might consider getting your brother involved in some sort of activity or sport he enjoys, or going to the YMCA for swimming or other activity. Have her look into cutting sugar and junk foods from his diet, which can contribute to the issues, as well as considering cutting out wheat products or dairy. We found that peanut products of any sort (even chips cooked in peanut oil) contributed greatly to the possibility of temper flares or tantrum-type behavior. Entirely eliminating these may be of help, too. Sugar usually contributes to activity or less control in regards to behavior. Each person is different in how they react to foods. Have her look up, online: ADHD and candida or ADHD and food sensitivities. She will need to be consistent with discipline, letting him cool off in his room when he has not followed rules. Usually, you cannot reason with an ADHD person right when tempers are high. That is why spending time cooling off, with no one yelling in the mean time, calling names or accusing, may be of assistance. Then, when everyone has cooled down and tempers seem a bit more under control, a more reasonable discussion may be able to be held - with no anger, but reasonable thought to how the problem could either have been avoided or a better way to handle it in the future. Finding ways to handle things in a positive manner is good,a as well as finding things to compliment the ADHD person on will help, as they usually hear lots of negative comments most of the day. Have her look up the book called: "Allergies and the Hyperactive Child", by Dr. Doris Rapp, online booksites. It can be a bit difficult to believe you are a good parent when a child has trouble controlling themselves. The book mentioned helped me to see things more clearly and find some things to try, and also see when my son was actually trying, himself.
