Those of you with ADD/ADHD, do you find yourself constantly understimulated? How do you deal with it?

how do you deal with being constantly understimualted. Did you have to change your lifestyle to something more exciting or stimulating, and is it working? Or is there a trick you do? I want to know how you cope, and maybe help me

Wow, was going to ask almost the same question myself...

I have quite a few doubts about ADD(which I was diagnosed with at a young age ) or ADHD should be considered a 'disorder' however, I'm not going to bother going into that topic since that's not what you asked.

Anyway, I myself find it hard to present an answer as I have similar questions, however, I'll do my best. I would like to mention that the suggestions I have apply to people in general and not just those diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.

It might sound silly, but first and foremost, I have found that simply eating a good breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks (for those parts of the day when you need some extra energy), keeps me energized and happy. Also, getting a proper amount of sleep is extremely important so you don't feel exhausted all the time. Getting outside and doing physical activities whether it be running, karate, or walking downtown with your friends. Which brings me to keeping your social needs met.

I know for a fact that after a weekend where I sit all alone at my house, I feel like crap and hate the world. However, after a night driving around the city visiting restaurants, Record Stores, and the mall with friends, I feel good about myself and satisfied. You may or may not be a family person, although I find it hard to enjoy family time since when I was younger I did hardly anything with my friends and went around with my family quite often. If you do not know a great deal of people, get out there and look for shows, concerts, exhibits that match your interests and meet new folks!

Basically, the answer isn't very hard to find. If you're not finding what you're up to in life at the moment interesting, then do as you mentioned; adjust your lifestyle. If you're cooped up inside (I for one have been guilty of this on many an occasion including the current moment), call up a friend, and get out and do something with them!

Heck, maybe even see if one of your friends would be interested in bringing a little more 'spice' into their life as well. Try out new hobbies, who knows? Maybe there's something out there that will strike your fancy that you never considered before, or it did and never got around to it.

It's much better to make an attempt and try new things than sitting there wishing you had the energy to do them.

Now, with that moving speech said and done, I'm going to try and live up to my own advice to avoid being a hypocrite, hahaha!

Good luck mate, and hope I helped in some way! If not, hopefully you find the answer you're looking for!

I have both ADD and ADHD combined type. I had to figure out what made me entertained without getting bored such as drawing or sleeping. I cope with it in a way that i don;t even understand. but it is working I don't notice it anymore.

omg, i seriously thought i was the only one who is constantly BORED. i know it sounds bad, but i smoke a lot of weed. even then i still am always bored, i paint a lot and read and watch movies. hope that helped
