3 year old has adhd and bi polar?

My grandson is 3 almost 4 now,he was diagnosed with adhd,bi-polar,and mood disorder,i am trying to get him some help, school system just started testing him,the preschool/daycare he is in,he has been suspended, there ready to kick him out, they told me that they wouldn't even put him in VPK at the preschool next year because of his behavior,we are trying diffrent meds that haven't helped yet.he needs help NOW,not in 6 months when the school system finishes testing, nobody seems to understand how badly he needs help,i don't know what else to do,im trying to get him in a school that deals with kids like him but haven't heard yet,we live in Florida,im trying now to get an advocate to help me free of charge, does anybody know how to do that,im desperate,i work full time and need daycare,i don't have the option of staying home to care for him,the daycare wants to just kick him out instead of eork with me.

evidentally bill you don't know about mentall illness.it is not a disapline issue at all.

My 4 yr old was also diagnosed with ADHD and a mood disorder. Over the past 2 years he has been kicked out of 6 daycares!!! I feel for you. As far as your job you are protected by the FMLA to take the time off needed for your child. Contact your school districts for special needs programs they offer for preschoolers. You are protected by public education rights and they will help your child and not give up and kick him out like daycares. I just found out from being in daycare and having this disability my son is very behind on social beahvioral and fine motor skills. I dont have much advice since I am in the same boat but I wish you the best of luck and can only tell you that you know what is best for your child and since nobody seems to understand our situation you can only fight for your rights!!! Best of luck!!!

Who diagnosed him? He needs to be under the care of a child psychiatrist. I'm not sure I would believe a diagnosis of bipolar in a 3 year old. ADHD can be very similar to bipolar.

Look for your county's community health center, they will either have a clinic that can see him at a low cost or free of charge or they can refer you to someone.

3 years old? He's being a child, leave him be. Why are people set on stopping children from being children. My god, it's literally appalling to hear of a small kid of the age 3 being on mind altering drugs... it's horrible.

My advice to the parents of this kid is to learn how to properly discipline him... and no, I don't mean beat him. If he's being disrespectful, he needs taught the correct way to behave. The parents (or the person raising this kid) are the only people to blame. At his age, he's not responsible for his actions.

Drugs are not parents, they can't teach kids life.

Edit; Gloria, you cannot cast off my opinion just because it goes against your beliefs. Yes, what I'm saying is not only plausible, but highly agreeable by any good parent.

Don't be so quick to judge people, it does no good. I do hope that everything works out, though.

I agree with the above. It is FAR TOO SOON to be diagnosing such conditions. ADHD and bipolar disorder are addressed in sections 22 - 25, and 10, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris and non medication based treatments for both are shown.

Give him 2 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it.

Enter ADHD, & KRILL OIL in the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com
Consult a developmental psychologist, or p(a)ediatrician re suitable training for him, NOT a psychologist who specialises in treating such disorders in adults, because he will read normal child behaviour as being symptom of those disorders. He probably has little, or no training in treating children.

Have you any idea of the risks, and side effects of the medications that are given for theses disorders? Check out medications at: http://www.drugs.com * & http://www.rxlist.com/ & http://www.iguard.org/ & http://crazymeds.us/ & http://www.askapatient.com/ A medication interactions function is here* See: MEDICATIONS INTERACT: DANGERS OF MEDICATION INTERACTIVITY! in section 81, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris

There is a saying in the mental health field: "if the only tool you have in your kit is a hammer, you tend to treat everything as a nail". Suggestions re environmental causes: Avoid preservatives, MSG, artificial sweeteners, (aspartame, and sucralose particularly) colors, flavors, high fructose corn syrup, and minimise sugar intake. Eat more non starchy vegetables, at least 5 serves daily, and 2 of fruit; I would select an orange as one, for the NATURAL vitamin C. Try to eat more local, and organic produce. Have more raw food, and eat more in accordance with your "nutritional type", as shown via the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com Also enter "electromagnetic radiation" & "cell phones"

Get rid of microwaves, and teflon, and store in glass, ceramic, or metal (NOT ALUMIN(I)UM!!!) not plastic (phthalates!). Use no soy products. Use wired computer connections, and a landline phone, except for very short calls, and absolute emergencies (balance radiation exposure to left & right side of head; right handed people develop more brain tumours on the right side). See: PREGNANCY DANGER! - CELLULAR MOBILE PHONE PREGNANCY DANGER! and the other articles in section 82, at htp://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris and TOXIC ENVIRONMENT! - NO-ONE'S SAFE FROM CHEMICAL OVERLOAD! and other articles in section 81.

Consider having the mercury fillings in your teeth replaced by a dentist SPECIFICALLY TRAINED IN THE SAFE REMOVAL of so called "silver amalgam".

I find it very interesting that small children like this are being diagnosed with such big diagnoses. I am not discounting what you are experiencing or that you are trying to help your son. I just am surprised at the way medicine has changed in recent years. My son was ADHD and had symptoms that were very difficult for me to understand. One day, someone I knew told me to turn the T.V. on and watch a program which was airing. I am so thankful I watched that television show. I had felt like a poor parent. My son would have a terrible time in school. He would not be able to complete his work, even though he was very smart. He never slept more than about 3 hours at one time as a baby, infant, toddler, and cried a lot, colic, etc. He had temper outbursts for no reason, as well as tantrums. He would soon be silly, laughing. He was definant, but not all the time. I read the book by the doctor who was featured on the show. I found out how to treat my son. In addition, now that I had a break from some of the symptoms, I was able to work with him and find positive ways to interact with him. He has graduated college and was never on medication longer than about four months. This is not to say that some people should not use medications for ADHD, but it is to say there is sometimes more to these things than just prescriptions. A three-year-old needs to experience life. Please see the link and read books by the author. It may make a huge difference in you and your son's life. I am so glad I did. By the way, peanut products can be disastrous to some children.

When you watch this segment, please note that the medicatons the doctor refers to, at the time, may be different now and possibly improved, but please watch so you can see the examples of the children in the tape. This is very valuable information.
