Is ADHD a personality disorder?

Is ADHD a personality disorder? Thanks

It is neurological developmental condition that is best seen as a behavioral disorder and not a personality disorder. It affects 3-5% of the population and usually has 3 qualities: Inattentiveness, impulsivity and hyperactivity. There is no cure, but medication and social skills training can be extremely effective. Many children "age-out" in their teen years and will only manifest the inattentiveness as they age.

Personality disorders are defined as: as "an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it." Typical personality disorders are Paranoid personality dis, Antisocial, Hystrionic, Borderline, Narcissistic, Dependent, Obsessive-Compulsive, etc.

Note that many children/adults with ADHD combined also have personality disorders, anxiety disorders and mood disorders.

ADHD pertains to the person's ability to pay attention, inability to be quiet or sit still, sometimes irritability, and other things. It sometimes seems as though it involves the personality, but usually this is because ADHD people are very sensitive to outward stimuli. Being tired, too warm, hungry, too much noise around them, etc., can be more irritating to them than to some other people. Additionally, if a child had grown with people noticing certain negative points such as activity, speaking out of turn, etc. and these things are pointed out, routinely, that could lead to a negative self-image. That is why pointing out positive things is a beneficial thing, especially for ADHD children.
