Will ADHD and dyslexia hold me back in College?

Will ADHD and dyslexia hold me back in College?

Not necessarily, but it could. In college you are on your own. You don't have the supports to rely on like you may have had in the past. You will need to find strategies to help you deal with the challenges that you will face as a result of your disabilities. It will not be impossible, but it will certainly be a bigger challenge for you, then it would for the average student. I wish you luck... I believe in you.

EDIT: Steve: Unless I am mistaken, IEP's do not carry over from high school to college and colleges are not legally bound to follow them. There are many schools with specific programs for students with learning disabilites, but I just wanted to clarify the fact that an IEP does not follow a student to college.

you are already ahead of most people here--you were able to spell COLLEGE--most people here spell it COLLAGE..

people with ADHD/Dyslexia cna be very successful iin college---in the US you can get accommodations such as extra time and books on tape under 504 of the rehab act--

just be sure you are receiving a standard diploma or a modified standard diploma when you graduate form High School----some states issue Special Ed Diplomas/IEP Diplomas/Certificates of Complettion taht will not get you into college

No! You may have to overcome some obstacles but with the correct accommodations and modifications you can be successful. Have you been diagnosed with dyslexia or ADHD? If so, you would qualify for an IEP (individualized education plan) which would legally protect your rights to certain accomodations in school as a person with a specific learning disability. Check out http://www.readingresource.net/ to learn more about dyslexia and use the "contact us" form if you have any other questions. I specialize in learning disabilities related to reading and can help you. There are many colleges and universities that have programs designed specifically to help people with dyslexia. I have seen many adults with dyslexia and other disabilities graduate from school and go on to successful careers.

Sincerely,
Steve from www.readingresource.net

Do not give up hope,You will run across college advisors and professors who will tell you,you should not go to college
and drop out.I had a learning disability and I was driven out
of comunity college in 1979 and was told I had no right being there. Do not let people discourage you. There are
people out in the real world who do not understand. Do not
let this answer discourage you,I was telling you my experience when I was younger. There was no help in my time. hold on to your dreams.

If you have ability and are given appropriate support, you should make progress.
