Can adhd be cured. is it dangerous? is there a link between the disorder and suicide?

My friend is adopted and developed ADHD when he was a child. He tried to kill himself when he was like 15 years old. But he grew out of it. But I don't think he did. He is a heavy drinker and smoker.
Is it a dangerous disorder? Like is there a direct link between the disorder and suicide/ thanks

I am going to have to disagree with Carl. At the heart of ADHD is impulsivity, to take chances without thinking them through and this does increase the chances of high risk behaviors being dangerous. Judgement the part of the frontal lobe that makes judgement isn't mature until 22, and it is the first impairment from consuming alcohol. Most people who are suicidal are only passively so, we know this from suicide attempt survivors that don't repeat the attempt. A person who feels suicidal does not feel it all the time or at 100 percent for the most part.

ADHD is often misdx in childhood when the disorder is bipolar, these are paired together frequently

I would say yes there is a direct link

You can't develop ADHD as a child, it is an inborn disorder it does not develop as such.

Suicide is not directly linked to ADHD but kids who grow up with ADHD may have a difficult life due to constant failure at school, struggling to make friends and being in trouble a lot. This can lead to depression in the teen years which can lead to suicide.

You can grow out of ADHD but most people don't, most people continue to struggle with it for the rest of their lives.

It's not a dangerous disorder, but it can make people difficult to get along with.

ADHD on it's own can't physically harm you. It's simply a disorder where you cannot pay attention to any one thing for an extended period of time and have excessive energy.

ADHD cannot be cured, but it can be treated with medication.

ADHD is not and never has been linked with suicide or other emotional disorders.
