Is Ritalin used to treat ADD or ADHD, or both?

I'm having a slight dispute with a friend. I think both, anyone know for sure?

Sadly, both.

I am not a supporter of giving kids this drug, or any for that matter, if more sane alternatives can be given instead.

If you read a book called The ADD Book, you can see there are many alternatives to drugs.

Studies show that kids given drugs for ADD/ADHD have a higher rate of becoming involved in street drugs or abuse alcohol. The answer is treating it, not putting a band-aid on it that can make matters much worse.

It is both. I have 2 sons, one is ADD and the other is ADHD.

Both would be on ritalin, but one is allergic to the drug and the other I refuse to give him just in case of confusion of medicines.
