My 15 yr old grand daughter has been diagnosed bipolar add then bipolar again add and now adhd with depres? |
she was diagnosed with anxiety, then bipolar, then add, then bipolar again and now adhd with depression. the doc's still don't have it right and she is the one suffering. who do i take her to see to get this right. there is family history of multiple personality disorders back at least 4 generations. she is only 15 and she is brilliant, wants to be a doc and keep always helping her with care and try most u can never let her think she is alone.... bcoz this can over her life A lot of these illnesses run in families. For example, I have bipolar illness, my brother has Aspergers Autism. Aspergers Autism is frequently misdiagnosed as ADD. A lot of the symptoms are similar, and it takes a brilliant doctor familiar with the various disorders to determine which disorder she may have. I'm sorry to hear that your granddaughter is struggling as well as your family. It is so hard to see your kids feel that way. I have a ten yr. old son and I am having the same problem. He was diagnosed adhd, odd, bipolar disorder by one doc. Now there saying it's adhd not odd and depression and some anxiety issues (which runs in the family all of them even bipolar) Due to her family history, this sounds pretty complicated. I would only suggest looking into a book that might at least help with the ADHD, and you never know if it might help with other aspects of her difficulities, or not: "Allergies and the Hyperactive Child", by Dr. Doris Rapp (online used booksites). Please keep in mind that this book deals with adults, too, and the information in the book is equally helpful to both. Many ADHD people have times when they are very irritable and then times when they are silly and having fun. But, of course your grand-daughter does need to listen to her doctors so that she can keep on track. But, if you read the book or she does, maybe you may find some tips, here and there. Additionally, try to be very upbeat and find positive things to say to her. ADHD kids and teens hear a lot of negatives and this can be very frustrating. The following link has to do with ADHD. Good luck, and make sure your grand-daughter does listen to her doctors. Check out ratemds.com. Go to the browse section at the top left and find a psychiatrist in your area with good ratings. Seeing a new Dr. is crappy but I went to 4 before I found one I liked. |
