Are people with ADHD normally kenesthetic learners?

how does it help to focus in a classrom that mainly uses visual and listening for learning?

Hmm that depends on what you mean by kinesthetic.
Many people with ADHD have poor motor planning and so they can be somewhat clumsy. Learning a sport or dance may be difficult.
Yet there is a sensory component that many people with ADHD utilize which is movement.
By allowing for movement that calms the sensory system and allows for better learning.
They may be the type of person that is constantly fidgeting with something in their hands, rocking in their chair or tapping their foot.
In your classroom I would simply utilize a setup that allows for more movement and a teacher who understands that someone can be fidgeting with something in their hand or rocking yet they are listening.
It drives me nuts to hear a teacher scold a kid for doodling and not listening. By taking his movement away you have taken their ability to listen away.

Another way to look at it is are many kenesthetic learners frustrated in most classes and misdiagnosed by teachers teaching in classes that require that informations is delivered in a more abstract way because of more students per teacher?

Take a kid with a random, trial and error or kenesthetic learning style , who is typical in need of feeling that an adult is tied in with them emotionally so that they feel safe and trusted, and put them in a cold classroom and their frustration will lead to private goals that seem disruptive...

Grecorc Learning Style indicator types talk about how some students are concrete random learners. The concrete part is like being kenesthetic, in that they search for "real" answors in a trial and error way. The Grecorc Learnign Style Indicator is a well researched learning style asessment that talks about some kids needing empathy to perform.

Please look at www.drbate.com. He has developed a brain balancing cd based on biofeedback-I am a mental health counselor getting certified in biofeedback. His CD makes it affordable ($150 versus 4-5000 for biofeedback to clear up ADHD) and you listen to it at night. Biofeedback is as effective as medication without causing damage BUT insuranse usually doesn't cover it except for pain and anxiety. I urge you to look at that site...he focuses on the brain wave balancing which is increasing thought frequencies in a way drugs try to do but biofeedback does as well.

Hands on learning helps the ADHD student focus more on what is being learned. Short sessions are best.

For the ADHD student, visual and listening lessons are more open to letting their mind wander. It is not that they don't want to learn, they are most likely getting "antsy" and need to do something with their hands to keep them occupied. It persoanlizes it for them.
