Is homeschooling a good idea for a bipolar teen, also has ADHD.? |
The one- on - one may help, you think? It certainly will help. I am home-schooling an autistic child and it is helping. I also have a bipolar child that is in a private school. If my only choice was public school, she would be home-schooled as well. Oldest daughter is bipolar, son had ADD (according to the school, that is). Oldest was home schooled in grade 12 and went on to college, son was home schooled grades 8-12 and is now married, working, has a daughter and doing fine. When I took him out of school in grade 8 they were going to give him and IEP and he tested at grade levels fro grade 4 to 7. After one year of homeschooling he tested at grade levels 9 through 12. As far as the last poster saying if you can handle being around your kid, I am a little lost there. Unless you have an incorrigible teen who is bringing drugs into the house or something, and disrupting siblings, I don't know how anyone could not handle being around their own kid. As for he one on one, it is great, and home schooling also allows for the teen to go at their own pace and in the case of the ADHD, get up and take frequent breaks as well as do more "hands on" activities. I think that might help as long as this kid wont drive you crazy. As long as you can deal with him and handle him in a responsible way then yes definitely. And I think as the kid's parent you should be able to do that. The one-on-one will do wonders for him/her. It'll help him/her stay out of trouble and there will be less chances for him/her getting into trouble. I think it sounds like a good idea as long as you can handle it. If you get to tired and aren't responsible the homeschooling can do more damage than good. If your thinking about homeschooling you should check out this site: |
