How does cognitive therapy work in simplified terms? Re ADHD?

For example how would I treat ADHD with cognitive therapy?

Many thanks in advance!

Yea well in your day im sure you called cars horseless carages! Things advance try to contemporise!

Cognitive therapy works my trying to change a persons perception of themselves or their surroundings.

So firstly a child with ADHD would meet with a psychologist and talk about what they act out. Then the psychologist would help them to see that thy can do other things. for example breathing exercises when they feel they are about to become hyper (breathing in for 7 seconds and out for 11 is proven to calm someone down) next is the thrid andfinal step the patient will be put in problem stimulating situations which may prompt their adverse behaviour, here in a controlled environment they can practise skills they have learnt to deal with what they feel.

This can also be applied to other mental disorders like an inability to sociallise, the patient will learn positive thinking skills.

Hope this helps

COGNITIVE THERAPY WORKS BY ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE A PERSON'S COGNITIONS (MENTAL PROCESSES) IN ORDER TO CHANGE THEIR BELIEF SYSTEM.

FOR INSTANCE, A CHILD WITH ADHD MAY FEEL UNLOVED AND SHOW THAT BEHAVIOUR, BUT IF YOU CHANGE THE WAY HE THINKS AND SEES THINGS (TELL HIM PEOPLE LOVE HIM) HE WILL BEGIN TO BELIEVE IT AND HIS BEHAVIOUR MIGHT CHANGE, BECAUSE HE IS GETTING POSITIVE ATTENTION, RATHER THAN ATTENTION FROM BEING TOLD OFF.

WAS ANYONE PROMISED TEN POINTS?

We used to call ADHD daydreaming.
