My mother is driving me nuts about my son;s ADHD medication? |
My son is ADHD, and is developmentally delayed. and is on Ritalin, and he also takes Depakote. My mother is always hounding me that he is just not disciplined and that I am not consist ant with him. I am consist ant She is always saying that he is like a Zombie and that he can never learn while he is on this. He is not a zombie and if he is not on the medication his behavior is worse, and he is so hyper when he is not on it that he cant sit still at all. I am tired of hearing it from my mother. I feel like sending him to visit her With no medication to let her see what it is like. I got medication lowered about a year ago, and now she is telling me OK now go down on it more so yo can start to get him off of it. So does anyone have any suggestions of how I can handle this cause she is driving me tp need medication. Also I dont think she understands that he is delayed. Good luck!! Mothers always think that they can do everything better. But just know that she is probably worried about her grandbaby too and probably feels helpless and is Trying to over compensate by badgering you!! But just sit her down and tell her, mom it's stressful enough dealing with my son, but adding you in the mix it's a wonder i still have all my hair. Loosen up or you gonna be limited on the time we spend with you. I can only handle so much, he's my son, so at some point i have to draw the line. Love you sorry! See how that plays out and do whats best for YOU AND YOUR SON, not her. At the end of the day it's just you and your son sitting in your house together, she's not there. Good luck and although you don't know me, you have all my support in your decisions on your child and his welfare. Mothers always know best. (MOTHERS not grandmas!!!) LOL!!! My son had ADHD and he is 24 now and doing awesome :) (He was on meds until he was 13). I think Sonya D's advice is perfect :) |
