What should i do about getting help with ADHD?

I have many symptoms of ADHD. I have bite my nails, focus problems, trouble staying on a single task, etc... I confrounted my parents about my problems, but they are reluctant to believe that i am anything but lazy. I am from a tradtional family that doesn't believe in that type of things. I am a college student in my 3rd year. Im still a dependent of my parents, finiancially and legally. They would be very upset if they found out that i was getting any type of help. Im not certain of a diagnosis, but how may i go about getting help or even a diagnosis without my parents finding out?

Stay away from labels. Human beings beings are ... well - human.
We all have our quirks. Stay away from drugs, too. Get to know yourself better and work extra hard on the things that are difficult for you.

The difference between success and failure is the drive and ambition to work on the things that are most difficult. You gotta make yourself do it.I know because I'm the same way.

I totally understand that you don't want to disappoint your parents in regards to their opinion about ADHD, but if you are in your third year of college, that would make you about 20 or 21? That means the privacy policies in any doctor office apply, although insurance companies send notifications about visits to the main address. You may just have to talk to them and tell them how important it is to you to succeed and to do well in their eyes, too. This college stuff is pretty expensive, so it seems that you both ought to be on the same page, here. You may be better able to support what you are thinking about this by finding material to show them which may help explain your concerns. Can you go to the school counselling department and ask about this? They might be better able to guide you. There should also be a department that deals with special arrangements that can be made for ADHD students within the classroom. That might be a good place to start, because they may know some resources that would be more confidential. But, in the long run, maybe you need to show your parents why this is important to you. Have you taken a speech class, yet? One thing you could try that would not be bothesome to your parents and totally natural, would be to stay away from sugary foods, white flour products, and eat more protein and fresh fruits and vegetables. Try to get enough sleep, too. Sugary things can possibly cause you to lose focus. Artificial sweeteners are no better.
