What is the most effective medication for ADD/ADHD? |
Without going too much into my symptoms I DO have ADD. My Dr. had me try Prozac which did absolutely nothing for me. I am now currently on Strattera which has yet to take affect but I am not pleased with the reviews of this medication from what I have seen online from past patients. I am still going forward with an open mind but I just haven't seen any success stories. What are your thoughts? There is no general "best" medicine. Since different people respond differently to medication, the best you can do is let your doctor try different meds on you and see which ones work. I have tried strattera in the past and truly hated it. I am on vyvanse now and it is not that bad. Took me about a week to get used to the side effects, but compared to other meds it is the least uncomfortable. It also lasts longer. The only thing about taking stimulants for adhd is you get really irritable coming off of them. It is definitely worth a try. My son took Concerta for awhile. It is a time release med meaning that it takes effect immediately and doesn't have to build up in your system like Strattera. He took Strattera also and liked the Concerta much better. He too takes Prozac and it seems to be helping him. He just started it about a month ago and seems to be doing fine. We are monitoring him closely on the Prozac b/c I was afraid for him to take it, he is only 14, but so far so good. Good luck, I know it is frustrating. i take Adderall but its only been a week since i started using it so far so good...oh yea its for ADHD and i know that the main side effect is you appetite changes All I know really is Ridalin. Sorry I can't be more of a help. |
