Parents of kids with ADHD?

When you look back at your child when they were a toddler, did you feel something wasnt right, but you werent sure what it was? What are some signs they showed early on? Whats different things did they do? Were they delayed? Please tell me what they were like a a young toddler. Ok well here's my concern. I have felt since he was a baby, that something just isnt right. I know it in my gut. Well he was evaluated today by early intevention. And he does have a pretty big delay in all areas except physically. He is 2 years and developmentally he is around the same as a 1 year old. They are starting him with therapy. He is doing almost everything that a 1 year old does. Im not going to go into everything he does, but I will say what eraly intervention told me. They said he doesnt have the attention span to learn, and he cant sit still or calm down long enough to learn. People tell me, kids are hyper and its normal, but please listen when I say he is hyper. Theres a differece between over active and hyper kids.Nothing calms him down, he cant sit, he doesnt stop running, climbing, spinning. I know the difference, I have 2 brothers with ADHD. But yea, they basically said he just cant focus, he doesnt have enough attention span to take in anything and learn, and wont sit still long enough to even realize you talking to him. I know hes young and it cant be diagnosed until later on. But as a mother I know somethings not right. And I also have 2 brothers with ADHD. He is my brothers up and down. My Mom has even said, hes just like your brothers were. They were delayed for the same reason, the attention span, and not being able to calm down. I know him more than anyone, and I have been around this my whole life, you know so I see it. Please give me you experience, please no rude answers, I am hoping to look for other Moms or Dads who can give me some advice or someone that I can hopefully just email and talk to. Thanks so much

do you mind if I email you, to ask some questions??

Sounds just like my grandson who is now 8. He was not diagnosed with ADHD, he has Autism.

he could be AD HD get every test they ask you to get done he could be ODD ,COD,Bipolar Autism keep on top of it to . since your starting him early with therapy that should help a lot.I do agree with you about knowing something isn't right I was that way with both my kids my oldest is AD HD and my youngest is autistic . With my youngest he finally was diagnosed 2 years ago they said he only had ADHD for years .My mom said he was autistic when he was little but they all said no then moved to different state and they noticed right away so just keep on all the teachers and doctors

I have a 12 yr old who was dx with adhd at age 6. He was very active like you say your is but he was not delayed in anything. He actually hit all his milestones extremely early. He is on meds now and it has helped him. He is very very smart and is doing great. He actually catches on to things easy. So don't be discouraged you are not alone. Everyones case is different but just accept him for who he is and what he will become in life.

My son:
Did not sleep well - up a lot as in about every two hours, never took naps, cried a lot, colic, did not like to be held, irritable if meals were late, bad in stores, lots of ear infections, some small rashes/eczema, ran around a lot, would not sit down to eat; but in addition he also had a great sense of humor, was very smart, learned if presented in the right way, was silly, talked early, fun even though he was active. I beleive a lot of my son's problems stemmed from his colic which irritated his stomach and probably caused him to not sleep too well. I would suggest immediately removing sugar from his diet, along with a trial of no dairy or wheat. You could look up "elimination diet" which is a diet made to help you see what foods your son may be sensitive to. It is true that a mother knows her child, and you can tell when things don't seem quite right. Read as much as you can to learn about these things. The more you can read, the better off you will be. I have also heard of a group called CHADD, which helps parents of ADHD children. Also look at these videos:
