Information on who handles ADHD?

I was dating a man for 9 months before I met his children or ex. I fell very much in love with him. When I met the youngest (12) I thought he was a brat, Now please understand I get along with everyone and love children. Then I learned he has ADHD. never dealt with before. So I decided to educate myself. For 3-4 months went to library, talked to parents, went to meeting. Everyone says children need construction. If I ask to take garbage out,it is to heavy. My food smell like dog food or don;t like it. I have clean bathrm after him, ect... His dad says this is part of ADHD, Now there is a 17 yr old and yes he makes mistake, but when the younger one does something he gets in trouble for it. I am told to act like a adult ,when the child acts like that. Pleas tell me is it part of ADHD?

Thank you for comment, But here I am acting like adult, I am write for advice. I am not the only one that question this. His own family. what I worry about that he gets babied and the other to boys get all blame.

Not everything is a disorder. Dr. Dobson one of the worlds foremost authority on children and psychology believes most kids just need tough love, parenting, and discipline. If the dad stopped to discipline his child the way kids need with love, but firmness, instead of giving him excuses, I guarantee the ADHD would "go away".

It sounds like you are the only one with a level head in the house, and you have a real tough road to hoe.

Too confusing... But basically you need to act like an adult. ADHD does not mean the child is retarded. If the garbage truly is not to heavy for the child to carry out then dad needs to insist the child focus and carry out the trash. ADHD just means you have to give the child more one on one attention... That said thousands of children are misdiagnosed with ADHD and ADD each year when sometimes it is just a normal phase the kid is going through or when the child is acting out--or even if the child likes to talk---dad should make sure this is a confirmed diagnoses from at least 3 licensed professionals (not just the family doctor). If it is true ADHD then dad needs to be sure not to fall into the "oh it is his ADHD" trap of underestimating what responsibilities the child can deal with---children with ADHD are like children without ADHD--if they see they are not expected to do anything then they won't.
