Son with ADHD please help!!!?

My 6 year old was diagnosed about 6 months ago with ADHD. We have him on meds twice a day and it doesn't seem to work like i hoped it would. I can notice a big difference when he's on it versed when he's not but what things could I try to help him settle down?? He seems so angry like and i don't understand why. He calls me names and talks to me so negative and doesn't listen to anything we say as far as directions go or he stomps around like he's pissed off or something. I need help trying to control him anyone have an ideas of how I could settle him down and him and i could bond better??

find ways to let him get his energy out

Sounds like your son was misdiagnosed. So many parents, doctors, and teachers are willing to medicate...

If he's still hyperactive especially moreso then he never had ADHD and what you are giving him is a stimulant- making things worse.

Sorry, your 6 year old boy is acting just like a 6 year old boy. Your going to have to PARENT him to get through it and get him off the freaking meds!

i'm a teenager and i have adhd and my parents tell me that i was alot like that too. if its any consolation i grew out of it by the time i was about 7 1/2 or so.

Lock him in room for a few hours and tell him that he'll go back in there when he is naughty. That should give him some motivation.

The medications are not cure-all drugs; they only aid the person in controlling their own actions.

i have ADHD too, at first my doctor put me on concerta and it made me supper edgy and i yell a lot more and i picked my skin it was a mess, but my grades went up and i needed that so i couldn't just quit! One day i had enough and went back to my doctor and he gave me vyvanse! it is the best adhd medicine in my opinion i takes the edge off while helping me focus i have better relationships withe my friends i am social and my grad are still up! i bet ur son just has the wrong med and the wrong amount in him i suggest 10 to 20 mg on vyvanse before ur relationship hits rock bottom!

The medication should settle him down. My son has ADHD and we knew something was going on with him since he was 2 years old. We got him diagnosed at age 5 but basically what the doctor told us was that the only true way to diagnose them was to put them on the medication and if it calmed them down then it was ADHD. We resisted medication up until last year, because I just couldn't bring myself to medicate my young child. My son's school kept pressuring us to put him on medication and my son finally asked us to try the medication because he wanted help. We tried the medication on a Saturday so we could see how he reacted to it. It was immediate! I actually went home and cried. I couldn't believe the difference. So my point is maybe if the medication isn't working then ADHD is not the problem.

I am 20 years old and have severe ADHD. I was once on many different medications but they made me really angry and tired all the time. I stopped taking them in highschool and my grades went up and I became i much better person. Don't simply listen to the doctors, do what you think is right. Also, make him play a sport or something else to focus his energy on. I started playing hockey and it distracted me and helped me get my energy out. My parents and I never got along too well, but when they started doing activities with me and treating me as a normal kid things got better.
