ADHD QUESTION NEED HELP PLEAS?

im 18 and i believe AD HD held me back,
growing up my whole life i thought i was stupid,
I been going to summer school my whole life from the 1st grade until my Jr, yr. in high school.I have a 1.6 G.P.A and my whole life i ben going to church but didn't learn nothing from it ( since i did not pay attention), But lately i found out i have AD HD in the begin of my sr. school year. Itryed 40 grams of medicate didn't WKr and I trd adrall XL 20 grams didn't work either.
my question is there any hope in me going to college,?
am I using AD HD as a excuse?

don't beat yourself up. the system failed to identify your learning needs. a person with adhd has a brain that processes info in a little different way. its not that you are stupid but that you've not yet learned to work around the way your brain functions. you need to see a doctor- probably a pediatric psychiatrist, who specializes in the treatment of adhd.there are many meds used in the treatment.also if you are still in public school they have to pay for any testing.
you will learn additional coping skills as you age. i sure wish you the best. here is a website that you might find helpful.

i sure do wish you the best. just hang in there b/c you can work through this! Report Abuse

Tell your doctor how these medications are not helping you. There is medication that will. People take mental problems lightly. But, if they don't suffer from it they do not understand. I do, I have mental illness, several. And some days are worse than others. I had a step son who had ADHD and it took so long to find medication. Would you be willing to try Depekote? It works wonderfully on some people. Ask your doctor about it. Ok? Keep on trying and I wish you the best! God be with you!

if u want to go there should be no problem
many colleges have special study programs set up for special needs students including yourself to help you succeed with the help of older students and mentors
keep working with your dr. everybody is different and different meds work for some people and not others, he should be able to find something that helps you
also try to split up what you need to get done in 10-15 minutes tasks, then you will accomplish things and it will be a short enough time that you can stay focused - like if you have a half hour of homework, split it into 3 10 minute periods of being focused, or if you have an hour split it into 4 15 minute periods - it helps a lot
dont get discouraged i have had adhd my whole life too and it does get easier as you get older because you learn how to deal with it the best way for you
