Can my 9 year old son get ssi for having adhd?

I have been told by my sons counselor that he should be able to get ssi for having adhd. he was recently diagnosed with adhd but has had a lot of problems since he was two. he is being labeled as "developmentally delayed" though the school system and i'm not sure if i want to put him on ssi or not. everybody says to do and get what he deserves but i don't know if he deserves it just for having adhd. all i wanted to know is if he can get it or not.

I think schools and everyone else need to stop labelling kids with this or that and then allowing them to use the label as an excuse not to follow the rules like everyone else or to allow them special treatment because of it. ADHD doesn't even exist according to nuerologists.

I don't know, but I'm ADD and I've never received anything nor have I tried. I hate having the label of being LD so I pretty much just work through it. I'm a grad student (Lord willing I will end up with a doctorate degree, in about three or four more years) so having ADD has not stopped me from getting a degree. I'm in a tough college and have tough work, but my own stubbornness and determination has gotten me through.

Feel free to email me if you need to talk or have any questions

Honestly I think it's sad when I see someone getting SSI for ADD/ADHD...and things like that. So many people really need those benefits and when I see someone denied who needs it yet they give money to a kid for something like ADHD...it really bugs me.

I know tons of kids with ADD/ADHD/Bipolar... they work jobs, function well, and I just don't see any reason they get SSI except their parents are just out to get that extra bit of money.

Fcous on his strengths... not his delays... Most adhd kids are very creative... some are genuis... get him involved in a school and / system that appreciates that component of adhd - rather than seeing it as a problem.

I've heard of kids getting SSI for having ADHD, however, i don't believe they should.

If he still has it at 18 and it's disabling, I believe so, but not at nine.
