Why in this world is everyone thinking kids have either autism or adhd?

Now days that is the answer to everything a kid goes to school that is alittle hyper and right away they have ADD or ADHD. Kids dont learn at the same speed and right away its Autism i dont understand. What happend to kids just being kids?

First of all, to receive the diagnosis of 'autistic', a physician must first diagnose a child using The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fourth Edition ( or DSM-IV). That is the latest diagnostic tool published by the American Psychiatric Association. In order to be diagnosed, the child must meet a total of 6 criteria from 3 different domains, which are 1) Social interaction, 2) Communication, and 3) Restrictive, repetitive, and stereotypic behavior patterns.

Autism effects 1 in 150 people, it is a serious disorder and should be taken seriously. Early intervention is critical for a child to be able to grow up and be self-sufficient.

Because we live in a society that loves to believe in the worst case scenario. If your child isn't perfect, or quiet like a little robot, then there is something wrong with them and they need medication. This is the same society that has created MRSA because antibiotics keep the patient quiet when they are infected with a virus. Rather than encouraging overactive kids to do something with that energy like sports or something, we just give them meds that will make them behave more accordingly. It's sad. Do I believe that there are people out there who genuinely do have these disorders? yes, but I don't think we're doing our future generations any service by using meds to solve all of our problems.

People feel the need to slap a label on everything. Parents are too busy to properly raise children, and nobody seems to want to discipline their children anymore.

So, he's not a brat, he has a disorder.

i love how the kids diagnosed with "ADD" and "ADHD" can sit and play video games for hours at a time. Hmmm....
