How can I get legal aid if I am the noncustodial parent? my next question is ok i have a son by my exgirlfriend and we've been separated for about a year and six months, now when we separated to told her that i will send her money to help with my son in i did faithly because that is my boy and i love him but during that period of time i met another women and had another child i told my exgirlfriend she got mad and put me on child support and told the state i never gave her a dime but i have the receipts from ever money order and yes i mark each one before i sent them to her childsupport, now the state wants me to pay for the year and six months when i've sending money from the jump and to make it worse i only make about 900.00 a month and my girlfriend is stress out my lights got turned of these month my girlfriend, my nine month old son ,and i were in the dark and heat because they want me to pay 300.00 a month and 275.00 in court cost, so what can i do to fix this? When you were sued for child support did you show up for the court date. This sounds like a default judgement. Legal Aid is usually by income level not whether you are a custodial parent. Some family law attorneys have payment plans. Good Luck!! BTW..next time you break up with someone you have a kid with stop the private communication and side financial deals.Do everything through the court and you will be better off. OMW I am so sorry u are having so much trouble w/this because the child support system doesn't give a damn about Fathers & their financial problems,just pay her,pay her,pay her is all they care about.You need a lawyer to go to bat for you,but if u can't afford one, you make sure to show your reciepts to the court for the money u already paid her so they don't say you owe her for that time and put it on your arrearages.As for u getting Legal Aid to help u w/this matter it would'nt hurt to try,all state laws are different,so give it a try,their number should be in any phone book-or look online. |
