How the commitment to personal beliefs and goals aids in the struggle to maintain identity?

this is my essay topic. any ideas?

Actually it robs you of your identity. Things change in life. This is inevitable. If one's commitment to their beliefs and goals can not change then eventually their identity will be lost as others grow.

beliefs can help building a continuity in your identity. that is it being as a connecting thread with all events in your life.
