Acupuncture stories/opinions?

I'm doing a persuasive speech on Acupuncture and if it's a valid medical practice.
Do you have any stories or opinions?

I got hit by a car on my bike in 2001. I fell right on my left wrist and it felt broken. So I went to the emergency room and by the end of the xrays it was not broken but very inflammed. I had a Chinese American doctor and I told her I was going to try acupuncture and she scoffed at it. She told me I needed 3 months of physical therapy!!!! I was broke so I told her no way.
The whole next week I had 3 acupuncture apointments and he worked on the wrist. By the end of the 3rd treatment it was like the accident never happened. I have been a true believer in the potentials of acupuncture and now I understand why it's 3000 years old.

Oh yeah, and now Harvard and MIT did a study that says it's real:

Acupuncture Proven to have an Effect beyond Placebo, Harvard Study Concludes

SO anyone who tells you it's not valid is ignorant (and not to mention highly conceited to think the Chinese are that stupid). It has it's benefits and limits like all treatments, but it can often mean avoiding DRUGS, which is why there is such a huge campaign against it by the silly medical community.

Well, if you have access to a CINAHL database (if you're at a university, you should have access through your library), you could search for RCTs in acupuncture, read the data, the study designs, and the results. Also look into information on problems with study designs and the issue of sham acupuncture for placebo.

Stories and opinions are good anecdotes, but research studies will have more impact. you could also search the NCCAM site for ongoing research and perhaps past research projects.

Not from personal experience, but I believe it has proved useful for pain problems many times, which could make it a valuable neurological tool - I do not believe it can cure but can often give relief, although I am open to correction.

I had it done for my back it helped.More than taking pills for pain.
