What is your first impression of acupuncture?

What is your first impression of acupuncture?

Hi - I am an MD, teaching at a medical school, and my husband is an acupuncturist. I am allergic to many painkillers, and while having a some really painful dental work done, went to an acupuncturist,( who became my husband several years later!) Acupuncture worked like a charm for me. Each session began with me lying on my back on an exam table resting, while the acupuncturist inserted 12 - 15 tiny needles into the top of my head, my arms and legs, hands and feet and my chest. The needles are very thin - about the width of a hair, and about 3 inches long. You feel something like a mild static electricity kind of shock then the needles are inserted, then they are completely comfortable as long as you lie still.
Acupuncture is really hard for the western mind to understand because we do not think in terms of heat, wind and stagnation going on in our bodies. I think of acupuncture like a way to "rewire" the human body. The needles sort of re-route the lines of energy in your body to make it function optimally.
I love it, and highly recommend it to patients with problems of like back pain and arthritis. Works great for me!

I think acupucture is very interesting. I dont really understand it, however I would like to know more about it. I wanna try it though. I hear it works. Its weird.
