What is a really good over the counter allergy medicine that doesn't cause drowsiness?

I've tried Zyrtec and Claritin and they both make me sleepy even though at least one of them claims it won't.

What's something else good to try?

(There's only one allergist on my health insurance and she's booked for 6 months so that's not an option right now, please don't say "Go to the doctor." That's really not the answer I'm looking for.)

Did anyone other than Versantly hear me "seeking real medical advice?" I'm sorry, what I meant to ask was "What is a really good over the counter allergy medicine that doesn't cause drowsiness?"

I will try to refrain from seeking testing and diagnosis on yahooanswers in the future.

Hmm, tricky. Everything makes me drowsy, except for Loratadine 10mg tablets, but they're supposed to be the same thing as Claritin. I don't know if there's anything different between the generic Loratadine and the brand-name Claritin that makes that difference. Singulair works great, too, but I think that's still prescription-only. I take Loratadine and Singulair together and my allergies clear up, and I'm not drowsy.

Maybe you could try cutting the Loratadine in half. 5mg might still be strong enough to cut back on your symptoms, without making you drowsy. Either way, many doctors recommend switching allergy medicines each month because you tend to develop an immunity to them very quickly (you can switch them out every other month and they'll usually be just as effective though). So you might need to find two different types. Sorry if that makes it even harder.

Non-Drowsy CLARITIN work well for me but put my hubby to sleep. Tylenol Sinus Daytime works well for him but puts me to sleep...

So you can try one of those and if it doesn't work the other one might. It depends on how your body reacts to it I guess.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

since the meds affect you so badly, follow up with your primary doctor till you can see the allergist. if you seek real medical advice, avoid Yahoo.
