Can you join the british army or TA if you have asthma ?

Can you join the british army or TA if you have asthma ?

It depends on how bad your asthma is and also what role you'll be doing in the army/ta.
Depending on the position you are wanting to be in the army, you will have certain criteria to meet these will be in the form of your qualifications,a fitness, confidence, endurance and medical test when you go for selection and if you pass then you can join and if not I'm afraid you won't be able to.
Go in to your local army careers office they will be able to help you.
Good Luck

It depends on one of two things:
a) How bad your asthma is, and
b) What you are going to be in the BA / TA.

If you do have asthma, it's probably not the best choice to work in 'the field', but you could always go into something like intelligence?

Ask at your local BA / TA recruitment centre, or you could just always join the Royal Air Force like me ;)

The regulations (AFCO 5, available from Armed Forces Careers Office) state in short that a person must be 'clear of asthma, wheeze symptoms or inhalers in the past 4 years'.

Anyone diagnosed as a child but hasn't used for 4 years can apply and if they pass the medical on paper they have a lung function test when they get to the medical exam at the final selection centre

That's a great question
