Asthma Attack while in surgery ? |
I had a surgery a few months ago, while i was under anesthesia and completely out my dr. told me i had an asthma attack while i was in surgery, i have mild asthma, i have not had an attack in 20 years or so...what could have triggered that? I am supposed to have another surgery in November, and i am kinda scared that it will happen again. When I came to after the surgery i felt terrible...my chest, throat, what are the chances of that happening again? depending on the type of surgery you have, they stick a tube down your throat to make sure you breathe ok during surgery. when they take the tube out after the surgery's done, you are still unconscious, but the tube can make your throat sore and scratchy when you wake up. it's possible that you had an asthma attack then, while you were still unconscious. ask your doctor about the procedure they used during your surgery. the attack was probably triggered by you extremely relaxed state caused by the anesthesia. or by a reaction to the anesthesia itself. tell the future surgeon what happened. the chances of it happening again are good, but that doesnt mean you need to cancel the surgery. surgeons and anesthesiologists are very good at dealing with these types of things. |
