Will it matter that i have asthma when i have sedation for a colonoscopy?

I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow and am really worried about the sedation. How long will it last? Will it make me panic? Will it effect my asthma? Thanks.

Sedation is optional. The colonoscopy takes less than 20 minutes. Just inform whoever is doing the colonoscopy that you have asthma, the type of sedative drugs they will give should not be an issue. The drugs are given to relax you, the procedure is not painful and there is no need to panic.

Hi. It should be fine. Let the staff know so the can avoid certain types of sedation. The test dosnt take long 15/20 mins on average. Its uncomfortable but not painful. If at anypoint you want them to stop tell them and they will. A nurse will be with you all the time and she will support you. It wont affect your asthme and you shouldnt panic. Tell the nurse how you feel when you arrive and she will be there for you and give you extra support if you need it. hope all goes well. Take care.

It last 20mins, just advise the consultant that you have asthma, so that they can choose the right drug for sedation, it will be perfectly fine. They gave valium and oppioid, no pain or worry, you will hardly remember anything

calm down sweetie, they are doctors and they know what they are doing. im sure you will be fine. why dont you just mention your concern when you arrive tomorrow.
good luck and i hope the results are good

I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago, there was no pain involved, nor was sedation needed. The thought is a lots worse than the reality.

There should be no problems, but you have to make sure the doctors know you have asthma.
