I have bacterial vaginosis and have heard that yoghurt can help?

I have been suffering from bv for the last month and this is my second episode. I have been prescribed antibiotics but i have also heard that yoghurt can help? Is this true and also what kind of yoghurt?

Yes, it will restore the Natural pH balance. It needs to be natural LIVE yogurt. Yogurt can be used for both BV and thrush infections.

Make sure you do not douche or use perfumed soap etc. Just wash twice daily with unscented soap and always rinse well. The problem with first line management for BV such as oral or vaginal metronidazole or even intravaginal clindamycin is that >60% of people relapse and BV occurs again very quickly.

Best advise is a Betadine VC Kit 10%. After 14 days it will sterilise the vagina. Then you'd need to try and introduce natural LIVE yoghurt into your vagina with either a tampon or syringe (without the needle!) The key is not the yogurt itself but the bacteria, lactobacillus acidophilus, in the yogurt. This helps the body maintain, or regain, its natural pH level which often alters throughout the menstrual cycle.

Its true that it can help in some cases, other things to avoid are vaginal douching, putting bubble bath or oils in bath and its best to use condoms when you have sex. Luckily your partner does not have to be tested !
When you get some yoghurt make sure the container says 鈥榣ive yoghurt鈥? because this contains live lactobacilli bacteria. It is the friendly lactobacilli bacteria that are reduced in numbers in bacterial vaginosis. Gently smear a small amount of yoghurt over the vulva (the area around the opening of the vagina), and also put some inside the vagina. The easiest way to do this is to use a tampon with its applicator. Push the tampon back inside the applicator so you have a space for about a teaspoonful of yoghurt. Then insert the tampon in the usual way, which will push the yoghurt into the top of the vagina. Remove the tampon an hour later. Do this twice a day for a week.
Its been medically proved that in some cases using the live yoghurt actually does help. (Peach melba or black cherry wont work quite the same lol )
Good luck.

Yogurt contains GOOD bacteria. BV is an increase in HARMFUL bacteria.

Keep taking your meds
Start taking PROBIOTICS and take them for at least 6 months. My family and I take them daily. While you are on antibiotics, you need to take probiotics a couple of hours after the med or the med will kill the probiotics.
Eat plain yogurt with active cultures(it should say that on the container)

Avoid BV by:
not douching
not having multiple sex partners

I hope you feel better soon!

I had heard that yogurt helps... There is more than one way "natural" way to treat bacterial vaginosis:

Yes, this is true but you do really wanna continue the meds until they are gone. It's basically dairy that helps but docs will say to eat yogurt cause its easy...and any kind is fine....depends on you and what you like.

Yogurtis one of the natural ways to cure BV and has helped a lot of people. A friend of mine consumed 5 cups a day and still does to maintain a healthy level of good-willing bacteria. My sister also used yogurt in a remedy, but in a slightly different way: she picked a coated tampon and inserted it in her vagina, daily until all the symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis vanished. Both still keep a healthy vagina as I type this.

Yogurt works well, because it contains probiotics to help restore the balance of bacteria in the vaginal environment. You should really give it a try, but make sure it's regular YYogurt. It can be that it doesn't work for you, it has for many others, however every person is different. Gladly there are many other ways to naturally cure BV.
