Can Bacterial Vaginosis go away on it's own?

I do not have insurance and have not went to the doctor, but I had the smell they say you get with the bacterial virus. I had it for about a week, maybe a few days more or less. The smell is completely gone and I have kept my "area" clean and dry as much as possible. Could it have gone away on it's own?
