Would Biofeedback help me significantly?

I have had all my life a problem with anxiety-induced muscle tension. It's located in my shoulders and back especially. It is quite painful and affects my quality of life considerably. My question is this: If I saw a psychologist who specializes in biofeedback, took it ultra-seriously, bought a machine for home and mastered that, would I see significant improvement in my conditions? I don't want to go the drug route again due to the side effects.

Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to read this question and answering :)

I believe it would. I have tried a few biofeedback machines in the past and think they can really train your muscles. I am also familiar with several relaxation techniques that might also help, like autogenics, Transcendental Meditation and progressive relaxation, but if you really need to target that area and can afford it I would go for it. Especially if you try it first with the therapist to make sure it really helps.

(edit) Can't believe I forgot to suggest "medical" massage for targeted relief; I am familiar with shiatsu and myofascial, and think both modalities could be very beneficial.
