Question about the cycling of bipolar disorder, please answer?

during the cycling, how often do depressive episodes happen especially for someone who doesnt like to take meds? and how often do the depressive episodes last? and can mania cause the person to think they're really in love when they aren't and end up marrying someone after knowing them for a few months? i am doing my own research so i would like truthful answers, thanks

I'll answer the last question first. Yes mania can cause someone to think they are in love. Mania is a feeling of euphoria, grandiosity, and delusions of grandeur. Basically that means that a person in a manic episode will feel invincible, take unnecessary risks, feel very important and special, and make many impulsive decisions. This can also be accompanied by psychosis (a break from reality similar in presentation to schizophrenia).
The rest of you question is more difficult to answer. There is not set number or frequency for the cycles. A person may have a depressive episode lasting 6 months, followed by 2 months of stability and then a manic episode lasting 3 weeks. Or they could have a depressive episode lasting a month and an immediate manic episode lasting a week. It depends on the person. The DSM IV does not list a period of time that a depressive episode must last in order to diagnose bi-polar, but the depressive episode must meet the criteria for a major depressive episode. Your best resource for more information is the National Alliance on Mental Illness(www.nami.org). Please contact them so they can get you the information you need.

Mania can absolutely cause you to marry someone prematurely, but not everyone who gets married hastily is manic.

Bipolar disorder isn't something that is exactly the same for everyone, and your bipolar disorder can change over time, so there is no way to say what is "normal" cycle time for bipolar disorder.

It sounds like you need individual answers - you can either see a doctor and discuss your situation in more depth, or, you could join a support goup for people with bipolar disorder and compare notes with others who have the diagnosis.

i would deff say the marrying part is possible. only of course if the other person is just as bad lol. but yeah. i have rapid cycling, and when im not on meds it seems to happen daily to every few days
